BVMed’s Homecare Forum will be held during the trade fair focusing on care for elderly people (Altenpflegemesse) taking place in Hanover, Germany, from 25 to 27 March 2014. The speakers, who include representatives of health funds, doctors, pharmacists, members of the caring professions and manufacturers of medical equipment, will focus on various topics around the central theme "Home treatment: ambulatory before hospital care".
Home treatment is already an important part of the care of patients in domestic environments and residential care and nursing homes. BVMed, Germany’s Federal Association for Medical Technology, has projected that the number of people needing ambulatory care will double by the year 2050. At the same time, BVMed warns, the labour force as a whole is expected to decrease so that the number of people employed in the health sector is set to fall as well.
Wulf-Diethard Rieck, Senior Consultant at pfm medical ag, will address just this point in his talk "Models for future home Treatment". At present, for example, 80-year-old patients with multimorbidity (minimum four to five diseases) receive attention from several different key players of the outpatient care sector at the same time. As Rieck pointed out, this will become impossible in the future because of changes in the overall determining factory. In his opinion, potential starting points include greater emphasis on networking, e.g. through treatment paths, and changes in billing methods (using outpatient DRGs).
